REVIEW:
Disclaimer: I received an eARC of the book in exchange for an HONEST review.
The book starts with psychologist Faith Finley getting into a car accident and waking up to find his husband missing. After months of investigation, the police ruled out that he might have flee on his own accord because he withdrew a large sum of money shortly before the accident and his passport was missing. The story switches between the past and the present, which I like in mystery/thriller books because the clues about the mystery are scattered throughout the book and it helps to get the reader's mind to continuously think each time there is a flashback scene.

It was an easy story to get into. I has hooked into the story by chapter 1 and the pacing was not draggy. The story also contained clues that would lead you to different suspects throughout the book thus capturing your attention further. I am not going to lie but this is one of the few mystery books that I did not guess the identity of the antagonist. But now that I think about it there were clues pointing to him/her so the idea that he/she was the predator was not far-fetched. In addition, Faith is not a reliable narrator, which gives the story more depth as it confused me as to whether to trust and believe her or not. Although, Faith can unlikable character with her questionable decision, I like her because it shows that she is human and relatable. It shows that she is not perfect and that she has her flaws. The only problem that I had for this book is that the antagonist did a lot of criminal activities for quite a long time but generating little evidence against him. It seemed like it was too good to be true or the antagonist was too lucky and his plan went smoothly.

This novel is more than a thriller/mystery as it talks about grieve, psychopathology, abuse, and trauma, which are very important topics that are needed to be highlighted in our present time. The story showed how different characters go through trauma and how they each have different ways to cope. It also highlighted the adverse effects of domestic violence not only towards the spouse but to the people with close proximately around them, such as their children. This book get a 4/5 stars from me.
