Title: Capturing the Devil
Author: Kerri Maniscalo
Published by: Jimmy Patterson
Date Published: September 10, 2019

PLOT:
In the shocking finale to the bestselling series that began with Stalking Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose and Thomas are on the hunt for the depraved, elusive killer known as the White City Devil. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse has them fighting to stay one step ahead of the brilliant serial killer---or see their fateful romance cut short by unspeakable tragedy.

Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell have landed in America, a bold, brash land unlike the genteel streets of London they knew. But like London, the city of Chicago hides its dark secrets well. When the two attend the spectacular World's Fair, they find the once-in-a-lifetime event tainted with reports of missing people and unsolved murders.

Determined to help, Audrey Rose and Thomas begin their investigations, only to find themselves facing a serial killer unlike any they've heard of before. Identifying him is one thing, but capturing him---and getting dangerously lost in the infamous Murder Hotel he constructed as a terrifying torture device---is another.

Will Audrey Rose and Thomas see their last mystery to the end---together and in love---or will their fortunes finally run out when their most depraved adversary makes one final, devastating kill?

REVIEW:
This is the fourth and last installment of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series which is bittersweet because I have been waiting for this book for what it seemed like forever but I am so sad to say goodbye to the characters. When I read the blurb when it was released on Goodreads, I got so excited because it is about H.H Holmes and I am really fascinated with his story. I actually went to Chicago last May and learned more his story.

Moving on, I felt like I got too attached to this series not only because of the cool and unique storyline but also because of the amazing character created by the author. The characters are so incredible. Audrey Rose is so badass. She is a strong female character that fights the norm of society, and I love her growth throughout the series. She has shown her vulnerability, which makes her relatable. While Thomas is so swoony. He respects Audrey's independence and allows her to grow. He is seen as this very confident man but I love that in this book explored more of his personality and that he is also insecure. Kerri's ability to create characters and to develop them is outstanding. She creates these characters who seems perfect but once the story progress we get to see their inner demons, vulnerability, and imperfections. Audrey and Thomas are different from what they were in the first book and also their relationship grows into a more serious one. I love how their relationship is now highlighted in this book.

Furthermore, what I did not like is the twist that Thomas is engaged to someone else first. For me, it was a lazy way to put a twist on Thomas and Audrey's relationship and it was resolved in a convenient matter. Also, the serial killer was also easier to spot than in the previous book. I mean it's just very out of blue that at the beginning of the book that Audrey encounters a "random" man, describes him, and talks about him with her cousin. It is just too much information for it to have a little weight in the overall storyline. But what I did love is how this story or rather the serial killer is connected to the rest of the series, especially in Stalking Jack the Ripper. I also like how this reads like as a movie, especially in the climax wherein Audrey Rose, becomes the Final girl in a horror movie. You can feel her emotions and her fight or flight response.

Nevertheless, Capturing the Devil is a wonderful ending to this amazing series. I am just sad that it is over. I guess it’s time for me to re-read the whole series again. I definitely recommend this series.
