Book Review: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
My
problem with this book is that it lacked in depth, unlike her other novel
‘Second Summer Chance’. The first
hundred pages was a drag and I had a difficult time getting into the story.
Also the main protagonist, Andie, lack dimensions and it did not feel a
connection with her. She was very reserve and had little character growth. With
that Clark, in my opinion, out shined her to the point that I’d rather have
Clark narrate the story and I was looking forwards to his scenes more.
Furthermore, the relationships
presented in this book were great. Andie and her Father shows that in a
Father-Daughter relationship there are some happy moments as well as sad
moments. Andie and Clark’s relationship shows the troubles romantic
relationships come with and the importance of communication in a relationship.
Lastly, Andie and her friends show the ups and downs with friendship and the
importance of honesty.
Moreover, I really like the ending
because despite it being a happy one it is still realistic in the sense that it
showed how actions will leave lasting implications case on point Toby when she
became distant towards Palmer, Andie, and Bri. I believe that they would not
have the same friendship as they had before but would continue on to be
friends.
